Murrabit Group School

The Murrabit Group School enthusiastically caters for primary school aged children. In 2001, the school was the first in Victoria to propagate leaf hoppers and bridal creeper rust in a classroom situation and then carry out a release into the environment under the Weed Warrior program.  October 2003 saw their 5th release of the rust fungus making their contribution towards the environmental benefits for the local citrus growers and Murray River frontage.  The school received first prize in the Small School Category of the 26th Victorian School Garden Awards 2003. It was the second time Murrabit has ‘bloomed’ at the annual awards.

 

Murrabit Playgroup Inc

Murrabit Playgroup offers excellent facilities (in the former pre-school building) for under school aged children.  Activities are held on the mornings of the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, excluding school holidays. The venue is also used by the Kerang Regional Family Day Care Scheme to run an innovative In-Venue Family Day Care program five days per week.

Murrabit Senior Citizens Club

Activities are held in the Murrabit Public Hall each Wednesday. The local seniors enjoy carpet bowls, a game of cards, afternoon tea and a chat, with the occasional tour or day trip.

Murrabit Cricket Club

The Murrabit Cricket Club competes in the Northern District Cricket Association. Murrabit has A and B Grade teams during the Spring and Summer months.

Murrabit Football Club

The Murrabit Football Club participates in the Golden Rivers Football League and sports a Senior and Reserves team and two Junior sides (under 17’s and under 14’s). The club has excellent facilities and a strong social calendar during the football season. For those who don’t see themselves as players, there are opportunities to get involved in central and boundary umpiring, administration, and many other forms of participation.  The club takes pride in being accredited with Level 2 in the Good Sports Accreditation Program.  The Murrabit Netball Club participates alongside our club and fields 6 teams.

 

Murrabit Netball Club

The Murrabit Netball Club participates in the Golden Rivers Netball League, with three Senior and three Junior teams.  The club boasts two quality courts and are actively involved socially with the football club and community.

 

Murrabit Riding Club

The Murrabit Riding Club was formed in 1979 by a group of like-minded hourse enthusiasts who wanted to be able to get together and ride in company.  The group caters for all ages and enjoys riding around the forestsand roads near the Murray River.

 

Murrabit Fire Brigade

The Murrabit Fire Brigade has a high volunteer involvement from the community.  The district is serviced safely by a fully equipped fire tanker and two mobile trailer units.

Murrabit & District Lions Club

The Murrabit Lions Club is a fun and enthusiastic service group. Fundraising through their own food van at Murrabit Markets, local Food and Produce festivals and clearing sales.  The club utilises funds to support Lions projects of their choice.  Many community groups have benefited from the generosity of the Murrabit and District Lions Club.  A ‘Community Service’ is also offered to those who are elderly or in need of help.

 

Murrabit Book Club

The Murrabit Book Club was formed in 1981 when a group of prople who were all interested in reading decided that  Murrabit should have a book club.  Book clubs are run through the Council of Adult Education in Melbourne.
